This week’s Sassy Fashionista is focused on simple tops, comfy pants with flair, and a linen-based trench coat.

Let’s start with a new and very lightweight, lose-flowing tank from free-people.com.

I have lots of bottoms. Too many. When I looked at my wardrobe, it was clear I needed to add summer tops. They came in at the top of the fashion-need category.

This one is great over a cami and will be super comfortable in hot, humid weather. At $50, the price was right. I can see myself sporting this piece again and again, including over slip dresses when I want just a bit more coverage on top. It adds a little something extra to an outfit, too.

I like it so much that I got two. One in this light tan and one in black.

While I certainly do not need more summer pants, I couldn’t resist this skirt-like pair from freepeople.com.

I am a sucker for gypsy like pants that flow. These Maisie Poplin Pants for $98 in smoke gray do just that. They come in several colors. The medium fits perfectly and the lighter weight fabric makes it a great choice for hot summer days, especially when you want to look sassy, and feel cool, too.

The long black belt is from my closet and it’s one of the best purchases I’ve made in the past few months. I grab for it often. It adds just the right amount of fashion flair to what might otherwise be an outfit that might prove a little too understated.

Finally, the linen-blend long trench from HM.com was a great find.

I’ve been wanting to add a trench coat to my closet for a while. But I’m just not a fan of the more traditional tan versions that seem so masculine. I know they are big in Paris; but I just don’t feel very Parisian in them. My new thing is if I don’t feel terrific in something, I don’t buy it.

I decided to try this coat in white. It seemed a bit more girly to me. I priced one at $200 before deciding to check out HM, where I found this wonderful trench for just under $80. I sized up to get the larger, oversized, Columbo-like trench look and I’m glad I did. The fabric looks higher end than expected. It is fully lined and has pockets, a must for this Sassy Fashionista.

I think this is an outfit that captures my spring/summer bohemian style, with pieces that will serve me well individually, too.

And that’s a fashion/budget plus.

How about you? Do you love trench coats?
