With her rescued Australian Shepherd, Jack, Judy Winter served as a certified therapy dog team through Therapy Dogs International (TDI)
from 2009 until Jack’s 2020 retirement during Covid 19.
For more than a decade, the team provided weekly emotional support to Michigan elementary students K-4, and to appreciative college students at Michigan State University’s Main Library.
Together, Judy and Jack documented more than 350 visits involving hundreds of hours of student support, including one-on-one time with students most in need. By working their canine magic, the team impacted many of the young student’s lives in positive ways, including their education. Judy and Jack were one of the first teams in Michigan to serve the entire school body. Jack quickly became a beloved school dog hero and passed away on May 15th, 2021 after a short illness. He is deeply missed.
Jack’s canine magic lives on through the stories and personal gains of the student’s that he loved unconditionally.❤️
Judy is now at work on a children’s book and memoir that will honor and celebrate her adventures with Jack and the life lessons they shared together, including the value of having therapy dogs in public schools. Check back for future updates.
