If you visit this Sassy Fashionista blog regularly, you know that lately I have been promoting shopping your closet whenever possible. Both for budget health and planetary sustainability.

Reality is, most of us have way too many clothes crowded tightly into our closets, and still nothing to wear.

Been there. Experienced that.

But sometimes, in our overly zealous effort to downsize and be more practical, we make fashion mistakes.

I know I do.

Such was the case with this beautiful dress from FreePeople.com that I purchased during the height of the pandemic, driven by visions of princess moments of another era that were being hyped on a favorite romantic period series of the time.

Big romantic-fashion sigh.

For some reason, after I did a photo shoot with this dress, I instantly experienced buyer’s regret; but I held off on returning it until it was too late. As a rule, I’m not someone that dresses in frills and princess gear. I thought I knew better.

I usually align more closely with Jo March of Little Women.

But this one dress was loudly calling my name. However briefly.

It was a mistake I should have seen coming before spending the $$.

The fashion love affair didn’t last and the lovely dress, cause it was lovely, ended up going to consignment. That’s something I now regret after seeing the photo resurface in my online memories this week.

Maybe it was the association with the pandemic that drove me to part with it. Maybe it was not quite the right fit. Maybe the reality of staying home all the time made it seem a bit too frivolous.

Maybe I’m just not princess material.

Whatever the cause for the parting, this Sassy Fashionista now kind of wishes she’d kept the frock. ‘Cause I think I looked kind of cute in that romantic Romeo & Juliet kind of way.

If only for a moment in time…

The moral of this fashion story? Make sure you give new pieces a little grace before you rudely shoo them out of your life for good.

Big, costly fashion lesson learned.

That said, here is the frock one more time for your viewing pleasure, improving my dismal price per wear.

Do you think I should have kept the dress? (Please say no).

Have you ever given away a fashion piece and then regretted it later?
