It’s that time of year again!
The Fourth of July!
A time of year when we embrace the best of our country’s history, which this year celebrates 250 years of existence. It has been an experiment in democracy that overall, has gone quite well.
Our efforts have not been perfect. But more often than not, they’ve been pretty darn impressive and have served as an example for the rest of the world. But work remains.
On this noisy and often hot, sultry holiday, we also celebrate small-towns, diverse heritage and sweet little parades with flower floats. Some with our dogs, and most people will overindulge in delicious cookouts that offer up a bounty of food, beverage and desserts. And there will be hot dogs. Lots and lots of hot dogs with mustard, ketchup, and pickles, and so many things to buy to decorate in those holiday colors of red, white and blue!!
Including our gardens, the focus of this week’s Garden Moments.
I’ve been busy decorating mine with flowers and flags and banners.
I admit I gave some real thought to decorating this year, It’s been a challenging one for many, and our country has a lot of work to do to reclaim its best qualities.
But I decided to decorate because I still believe that at age 250, this country is still the best country in the world. We’ve always found our way home after trying times. Gonna stay with that thought for the 250th!
And I have a spirited and lovely red, white, and blue bouquet for indoor decorating, too!
